The 20th century posed as a dramatic change in the development and transformation of social structures, especially in the 1950s through the 1970s. In these crucial years, women gained better rights and higher social standing. Gender roles and relations are a key part of this theme so as women gained higher status in society, the gender roles changed from being homemakers and stay -at-home-mothers to being women in the workforce and high society. The social norms that were previously in place were overturned, for both feminism and racial relations. This time of radical change shaped the social structure and actions of women today.
